Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi – Sweet Parsi Love Story – Review
Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi is a romantic comedy, starring Farah Khan and Boman Irani in the lead role. It is Bela Bhansali Sahgal’s directorial debut.
It’s a story of 45-year old Parsi bachelor Farhad Pastakia (Boman Irani), who is a bra-and-panty salesman. He stay with his mother (Daisy Irani) and grandmother (Shammi) who are desperate to get him married. Though he is a lingerie salesman, he never hides about his job, honest, for which all make fun of him. And he wants to marry whom he loves. He meets a girl, Shirin Fugawala (Farah Khan), who drops by his store. He feels she is the one who patiently listens to everything what he says and encourages him to reach his goal. And from friendship their relation grows to love. When everything goes well there has to be a villain to bring a twist. And that villain is none other than his mom herself.
Dialogues are funny. One such dialogue, which is said by Farhad, who leaves home for work on his scooter, when Boman’s mom ask him to ride the scooter carefully and not more than 40 speed (Gadi sambal ke chalana, challis ke upar nai), where he replies saying the scooter doesn’t go more than 15 speed (Mama… eh gadi pandrah ke upar jata hi nahi). The way Farhad stresses and says ‘Mama’ in a typical Parsi way to his mom, is cute.
At first look, youngsters may not like this movie and it may seem little boring. But to those who are in hunt for a girl or boy situations and dialogues will remind of their parents or relatives especially this dialogue, “Farhad…kuch hi 5-6 ladkiyan reh gayi hai beta, nehi tho next slot me hum logon ko vidvah yah divorcee hi milengi (only 5-6 girls are left, if you don’t agree, then in next slot we will get only widow or divorcee).”
The movie is quite predictable and slow. At times it seems to be very boring but Shirin and Farhad never let you go and they make you stick on your seats. The comedy timing is too good, which saved the movie. Dialogues are really good and they definitely make you laugh out loud.
Boman Irani’s, is a definitely a show stealer. Though like other heros he doesn’t have six pack abs, he has carried himself very well. His acting is just amazing. Farah Khan, though she is fat, looks beautiful and has carried herself very confidently in the movie. She is a natural actor, her acting is also appreciable, except for few emotional scenes. Both Boman and Farah have proved that size doesn’t matter. The scenes where Boman admits his love about Farah to granny Shammi are adorable. Daisy Irani as Boman’s mom has also done a very good job.
Songs are just okay. ‘Ishq mai tera bina’, sung by Shreya Ghosal and KK, is melodious.
Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padiproves love doesn’t have boundaries, it will happen anytime, anywhere (age no bar). It’s a sweet fun Parsi (matured) love story, worth one time watch.
